African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO), in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB)
African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO), in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) is implementing a project on Harmonization and Certification of African Standards for Dairy, Horticulture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Products with the objective of building the capacity of standardization institutions, Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises, through the implementation of harmonized standards and certification on the above-mentioned products hence support increased market access under the AfCFTA.
To achieve this objective, ARSO planned physical meetings for the Technical Committee experts (ARSO/TC 23 – Live animals, and ARSO/Project Committee PC 03 – Insects for Food, Feed and Derived Products) to deliberate and advance the development of African Standards which are at various standards harmonization stages.
On this basis, Zambia was invited and represented by experts in the ARSO Technical Committees (ARSO TCs) meeting which took place in Gaborone, from 11th to 14th March 2024. Among the representatives from Zambia was Joseph Felix Chibanga, a Research Scientist at the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research. Additionally, Mr Chibanga is the Chairman/Convener – ARSO Technical Committee Live Animals. He also represents Zambia in Technical Committees – Poultry, and the Project Committee – Insects for Food, Feed, and Derived Products.
